The inaugural Walker Family Reunion was held on Thanksgiving Day, 1967, at Mother Annie Mae Walker’s home in Murchison Terrace Housing Projects in Orlando, Florida. The 13 children, their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren all attended. Reunions were held every year in the home of one of the Walker brothers or sisters. For the reunions, each family would prepare food. There was so much overflow due to the growth in grandchildren and great grandchildren, that one single home couldn’t accommodate the entire family. The family began to use various community facilities to hold the reunions on Thanksgiving Day.
